Two of the Grenadines’ private-island resorts have been shut since Hurricane Beryl crossed the chain in July 2024, and neither has a confirmed reopening date. Palm Island is being rebuilt under a new name. Petit St Vincent says it intends to return and has not said when. Everything else in the southern Grenadines is either back or close to it.
This page is what we can actually stand behind, with the sources, rather than the dates that circulate and then move. Last checked 22 October 2026.
Broker insight
Clients ask about these two because they read about them, and the honest answer is that neither should be in a plan you are paying for yet. What I do instead is build the week around the Tobago Cays and Mayreau, which are genuinely back, and keep an eye on Palm Island for the season after. Nobody wants to arrive at a building site they were promised as the highlight.

Quick answer
- Petit St Vincent is closed and has given no reopening date.
- Palm Island is closed and returns as Voaara Grenadines after a US$100 million rebuild. Press reports point to December 2026, the brand’s own page says 2027.
- Neither has published a day-visitor policy for arriving yachts, so nobody can tell you yet what a charter will be able to do ashore.
- Union Island is largely back. The kitesurfing centre is running, its beach bar is not.
- Mayreau and Canouan are fine. Saltwhistle Bay has a new breakwater and the Mandarin Oriental reopened in November 2024.
Petit St Vincent
PSV is the last island in the chain before Grenadian waters, privately owned, and the resort is the island. It has been closed since Beryl.
The resort’s own position is that it intends to reopen and that an announcement is coming. It has not named a month or a season. We have seen 2026 referred to as the target and we would not plan a charter around it, because a resort that has not committed to a quarter is not a resort you can book a tender transfer to.
What that means in practice is that the anchorage is still a fine overnight, and the island ashore is not available. The sandbar and the swimming are unaffected by whether the restaurant is serving.
Palm Island, reopening as Voaara Grenadines
Palm Island has the clearer story of the two, because money has visibly moved. A US$100 million rebuild was signed in November 2025 and the resort returns under a new brand, Voaara Grenadines, rather than its old name.
The dates disagree with each other, which is the part worth knowing:
- Press coverage of the deal points to December 2026.
- The brand’s own page says 2027.
When the operator and the press disagree, we go with the operator. Treat 2027 as the working assumption and December 2026 as the optimistic case.
The same investment also covers rebuilding the Anchorage Yacht Club at Clifton on Union Island, which matters more to a charter than the resort does. Clifton is where the park fees are paid, where provisioning happens at the southern end of the chain, and where a fly-in charter joins the boat.
What Union Island and Mayreau Look Like Now
Beryl hit Union Island hardest of anywhere in the chain, so the recovery there is the better measure of whether a Grenadines week works. It does.
- JT Pro Center is fully operating, running kitesurfing lessons and rentals out of Clifton. Its beach bar is still closed and hoping for the 2026-27 season.
- Chatham Bay on the west side is in use and remains the standard fallback anchorage when the trade winds make the Cays uncomfortable.
- Mayreau is fully back, and Saltwhistle Bay now has a new breakwater.
- Canouan was not badly affected. The Mandarin Oriental reopened in November 2024 and the marina at Sandy Lane Yacht Club is operating.
How This Changes a Grenadines Itinerary
Less than people expect. The two closed islands were always the most exclusive stops rather than the backbone of a week, and the things a charter actually spends its days on are untouched.
The Tobago Cays are open, the park is collecting fees and the turtles are where they always were. Bequia never closed. Mustique is operating on its usual conservation-fee terms. Saltwhistle Bay and Chatham Bay both work as overnight stops.
What you lose is two resort lunches and the option of booking a cottage ashore at either end of the charter. What you should not do is let a brochure or an older guide put either island in your week as a highlight, because no day-visitor policy has been published for either and nobody can promise you a landing.
We check the current position with both resorts directly before either goes into a proposal. The dates in this piece have moved more than once and they will move again.
People also ask
Is Petit St Vincent open?
No. Petit St Vincent has been closed since Hurricane Beryl in July 2024. The resort has said it intends to reopen and has not published a date, so we confirm directly before including it in any itinerary. The anchorage itself is still usable.
When does Palm Island reopen?
Palm Island returns as Voaara Grenadines following a US$100 million rebuild signed in November 2025. Press coverage points to December 2026 while the brand’s own page says 2027. Treat 2027 as the working assumption. No day-visitor policy for yachts has been published yet.
Did Hurricane Beryl ruin the Grenadines for charters?
No. Beryl caused real damage in the southern Grenadines in July 2024, and the cruising itself has recovered. The Tobago Cays, Bequia, Mustique, Mayreau and Canouan are all operating, and Union Island, which was hit hardest, has its kitesurfing centre and anchorages back in use. The two private-island resorts are the outstanding closures.
Can a yacht still anchor off Palm Island or Petit St Vincent?
The anchorages are not what closed, the resorts are. Crews still use the water around both islands, and what you cannot do is go ashore to a restaurant, a spa or a room. Because neither resort has published a visitor policy for its reopening, nobody can yet say what access a charter will have afterwards either.
